Aardvark Learning Academy Tour & Shodo, Japanese Calligraphy Workshop | Doors Open Barrie

As part of Doors Open Barrie , Aardvark Learning Academy is open for everyone who is interested in our learning programs. In celebration of Culture Days , we will be hosting "Japanese calligraphy" workshop as well. Experience Shodo, Japanese calligraphy! It is a traditional Japanese art that uses a brush, ink, and paper. It is a mindful activity that focuses deeply on the movement of the brush, and the moment that you live. The workshop includes: Introduction to Shodo: Learn about how Shodo is practiced in Japan. Learn the basics: Start with setting your posture and holding the brush. Practice basic strokes: Make simple lines and dots. Create your masterpiece: Write a meaningful word or your name to take home. Doors Open Barrie is hosted by Creative Barrie, part of the City's Recreation & Culture Services Department 's culture branch, in partnership with the City’s Heritage Committee and the Ontario Heritage Trust . Doors Open Barrie is once again paired with City’s Culture Days programming, providing a unique opportunity to present free, hands-on arts activities in Doors Open sites, giving you a chance to learn about Barrie’s arts, heritage and business community.
